Japanese Tradition and Culture Explored at Ss Peter and Paul

Throughout the corridors of Sts Peter and Paul Garran, you may feel as though you have been transported into a foreign country, Japan. The children are invigorated and excited by the introduction of Japanese into the curriculum this year. The classroom, complete with low desks and zabuton sitting cushions, allows the children to experience some of the traditional customs of Japan. Each lesson exposes the children to all facets of Japanese Language and culture. The children have eagerly been practising introductions and greetings and all children including Kindergarten are undertaking the skills of writing in traditional Japanese scripts such as Hiragana, Kanji and Katakana. The children enjoy conversing with each other and have recently been able to practise their speaking skills with one of our soccer coaches who is a Japanese National. They were delighted when he responded to their greetings. Until next time Ja Mata.
