In 1882, the Sisters of Mercy arrived in Cootamundra and opened a school for 75 students. In 1913 the De La Salle Brothers began a school for the boys of the Parish. These schools continued to operate independently until 1967, when the two secondary schools integrated fully to become the Catholic High School. This was possibly the first trial for Catholic coeducation in New South Wales.
The mission of Sacred Heart Central School is to create a school community that welcomes and acknowledges the uniqueness of each individual, so that each student feels secure and knows that they are valued. Sacred Heart strives to encourage self-worth, self-confidence and a love of learning in its students by recognising their achievements and affirming them in their efforts.
