National Science Week at St Michael’s Kaleen

At St Michael’s the students enjoyed an amazing Science Week. Kinder were blown away when they observed the exploding lunch bag experiment. The baking soda reacted with the vinegar in the bag causing it to fizz and release gas which causes the bag to expand and pop. Year 1/2 observed the movement of water through a paper towel by completing the experiment, Walking Water. They also investigated light and sound as part of their science unit. Students in Years 3/4 had a great time making Panpipe Straws and Zappy Zoomers. They also managed to fire a balloon rocket! Our 5/6 students made Rocket Launchers with a straw and a balloon. They had to test the accuracy of their rocket over 1.5m with 10 trials. After this they had to look at what improvements/modifications they could make to either the launcher or the rocket, carry out their proposed modifications and re test over the same distance with another 10 trials. All the students had fun discussing the results of the experiments.
