One of the highlights on the Saint Thomas the Apostle calendar each year, is the annual Mother’s Day Breakfast. We had a beautiful crisp autumn morning to celebrate the occasion this year. A large number of our dads were at school at the crack of dawn and it was all hands on deck to prepare a hot breakfast for 480 people! With only 290 students, it was impressive to have so many mums, dads and children come to school so early for the celebrations. We were honoured to have some grandmothers join us as well. The dads cooked up the bacon and eggs while the children served their mums danish pastries and fresh juice. The fruit platter presentations were a work of art, with a few of the dads declaring that they had missed their calling in life and might look at a career change into the food preparation industry! There was a happy vibe in the hall as our mothers delighted in being pampered for the morning. All the children had created a portrait of their mothers. These were displayed on the stage gallery. They were also presented with haiku poems composed with adoring words. What a great way to spend the morning! Our little people having breakfast with the special ladies in their life
Community plays a vital role in making St Thomas’ the inviting, happy school that it is. The atmosphere was only one example of the many ways that parents and teachers work together to build respectful relationships. At the core of these relationships is a shared commitment to ensuring that every individual is nurtured in a safe and creative environment. This is something that is strong and palpable at St Thomas the Apostle School.
