Our Board
Board of Directors
The Board of Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Education Limited (CACGEL) was established on 1 January 2025. As the governing body of the Company, the Board is accountable to the Member (the Trustees) for the stewardship, conduct and performance of CACGEL.
The Board is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the Company in accordance with the CACGEL Constitution, By-Laws and Board Charter. The Board provides strategic leadership, oversees organisational performance and sustainability, approves key policies and ensures responsible stewardship of resources in support of Catholic education across the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn.

Aligning our mission
While the Board retains responsibility for the governance of CACGEL, it delegates day-to-day leadership, management and operation to the Executive Director of Catholic Education, supported by the Executive Leadership Team. The Board holds the Executive Director accountable for achieving CACGEL’s strategic objectives, managing operations effectively and implementing Board-approved policies.
Grounded in faith and a visible commitment to service, stewardship and mission, the Board works to ensure that all CACGEL’s decisions and activities remain aligned with the evangelising mission of the Church and the provision of high-quality Catholic education across the ACT and NSW.
Synodal governance
One of the defining features of the CACGEL Board is its commitment to synodal governance.
Synodality – from the Greek synodos, meaning ‘journeying together’ – is a way of discerning and deciding as a community of faith. It involves listening deeply to one another and to the Holy Spirit, attending to diverse perspectives, seeking alignment through shared reflection, and moving forward with collective ownership of decisions.
Synodal governance is reflected in the CACGEL Constitution, By-Laws and Board Charter and has become a lived practice that shapes how the Board works, discerns and makes decisions. Commended to the Board by Archbishop Christopher Prowse and the Member, this approach reflects CACGEL’s identity as an ecclesial entity, balancing the responsibilities of an incorporated company with the deeper vocation of serving the Church’s evangelising mission.
